Revolutionary contemporary art exhibition Sense & Sensuality, will be launching its second inclusive, multisensory, art experience at Bankside Gallery in September.
This spectacular art extravaganza, organised by pioneering charity BlindArt, features paintings, sculpture and installations by sighted, blind and partially-sighted artists with the aim of dispelling the misconception that visual ability is essential to artistic excellence and challenging the art establishment’s final taboo – touch.
Sense & Sensuality 2006 encourages visitors to get ‘hands on’ with all the works of art on display – exploring not only visually, but through all five senses. Sense & Sensuality is an inclusive exhibition that provides large print, Braille, tactile images and audio-description information for visually impaired visitors, BSL and text transcripts are available for visitors with a hearing impairment. The exhibition design considers a broad range of physical access adjustments.
Keith Salmon, Sense & Sensuality 2005 artist commented: “Having worked as an artist with a visual impairment for the last 15 years I’ve felt at times rather isolated. Sense & Sensuality gave me the opportunity to exhibit work alongside that of other visually impaired artists in an event that will hopefully start to erase some of the misconceptions that abound regarding the arts and visual impairment.”
